Ruth Palmer is an accomplished violinist from Britain. She was named the “Young Classical Performer of the Year” at the Classical Brit Awards in 2007.

Ruth Palmer received her music education from the Royal Academy of Music, where she achieved first class honors, the ‘Roth Prize’ for best violin final recital and the ‘Lesley Alexander Award’ for excellence.

She also studied with scholarships at Wells Cathedral School, Purcell School, Vienna’s Hochschule fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst, and the Royal College of Music under Dr. Felix Andrievsky. In 2005, Ruth became the first ever recipient of the prestigious Ritterman Junior Fellowship at the RCM, having previously awarded the Mills Williams Junior Fellow in 2004.

Ruth Palmer boasts a huge list of great achievements, that described her as “the most distinctive violinist of her generation” by Anna Picard in the Independent on Sunday. She was awarded the Classical BRIT award for her debut recording of Shostakovich with the Philharmonia Orchestra.

Ruth also had also played with the English Chamber, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Sinfonia Viva, Opera North, Ulster, London Chamber, and Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields orchestras with conductors including Andre de Ridder, Vasily Petrenko, Mischa Damev, Carlo Rizzi, David Hill, and Benjamin Wallfisch.

She had also performed in special occasions which includes the Bath Mozart, Cheltenham, Ravinia, and Edinburgh festivals, and for the LSO/BBC Radio 3 violinists series, Munich Opera House, Royal Albert Hall. In 2008, Ruth was invited to perform at the World Economic Forum. She played the World Premiere of the Sinatra Suite by Gwilym Simcock.

Ruth has also been featured in two BBC documentaries about Shostakovich and also “In Search of the Messiah”, a film about Stradivari.

Interesting Facts of Ruth Palmer

In 2007, Ruth Palmer performed with the 1729 Solomon Ex-Lambert Stradivarius at the press launch for the auction held at Christie’s. The antique violin was then auctioned at a price of US$2.7 million.
